The “Jimmy Smith Quartet” appear live at the ZDF Jazz Club on German TV in 1988. All around sideman Herman Riley is featured in the quartet of his longtime collaborator Jimmy Smith. Riley had performed regularly at the Los Angeles supper club owned by Smith during the 1970s, along with fellow saxophonist John F. Phillips. Smith recorded with some of the great jazz musicians of the day such asĀ Kenny Burrell, George Benson, Grant Green, Stanley Turrentine, Lee Morgan, Lou Donaldson, Tina Brooks,Jackie McLean, Grady Tate and Donald Bailey.
